Kevin & Michele's Story

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” - Phil 1:6

God began a "good work" in both of us when we were very young. We accepted Christ as our Saviour as children, and were baptized in our early teens. And since then, God has been "carrying on to completion" our faith journey of following God's leading towards the great commission. God stretched Kevin to make his faith practical during summers as a camp counselor and later in the work force. A year of Bible School allowed him to focus on God and determine his direction in life. Michele's ministry was mostly among friends and international students, from high school onward.

At university, both of us chose majors that we knew would provide us with opportunities overseas. For Kevin, that involved studying civil engineering and for Michele, it was English. There, Kevin was drawn into Michele's involvement with international students at various cross-cultural events.

These experiences drew us together and showed us strengths that God was using and was going to use in the future.

We were married after university, and moved to the small northern town of Fort St. John, BC, for Kevin's first job. There, we got involved in ministry: Michele on the ministry board at church and with international students, and Kevin on the board of a local Christian camp. Through these experiences and other church involvement, we continued to get excited about ministry.

Kevin went on his first eMi trip in 2002 to Cambodia to design a women’s center, after googling ministry opportunities for engineers. It was there that he realized just how important his water-related engineering skills were in the developing world. He subsequently went on two other trips as a volunteer engineer with eMi: in 2005, Kevin & Michele went to Guatemala to design a master plan for a school complex, and in 2006, Kevin went to Brazil to design an expansion to a boy’s orphanage.

Our family moved to Calgary in 2007 to join the staff of eMi. Kevin is a trip leader and the staff engineer. Michele works part-time in the office assisting with publications and other needs.

If God told me to live long term in a cross-cultural setting, the country I would choose...
We do not know where God is leading, however, our hearts have been in south-east Asia for a long time. Other areas are also intriguing as we learn God’s heart of compassion for the entire world.
